update

We had another great week for both golf and work.  The winds just do not seem like they are letting up this year.  We may have one day that is calm and the next few so windy.  It is actually quite dry out the winds have been really drying the golf course out during the day and I am hand watering many areas.  I really  try  not water the greens using the sprinklers. This year, I have only watered the greens at night 2 times.  The rest of the time, I will hand water the dry areas.  The wetting agent that was applied to the greens is working as planned.  The greens, I feel are much firmer but still will allow water movement through the soil profile.  Last year some of these dry areas were very difficult to rewet. Speaking of wetting agents, the fairways are also preforming very well, very firm and very little wet areas.  This upcoming week we will be spraying the greens, tees, and fairways with another application.

We have completed the range irrigation project.  A few years ago we had some major electrical issues out in the range which left only 8 of the 40 irrigation heads working. I had to water the range by turning on each of the heads, letting them run for awhile, then move on down the line.  To make a long story short we rewired all the sprinklers and now every one works.  whats that mean to you, well the range will look 100% better since it will have efficient watering at night.  Over the last 2 days you can already see the difference.

This upcoming week we will be lightly veritcutting the fairways and also start to spike the fairways.

Enjoy the weekend, I hope to see you soon.

Sun Safety

update 5/31

We were able to make it through  the weekend with only a little rain to slow us down. Yesterday was one of the busiest Memorial days that I can remember in a long time,  It was great seeing everyone.    Summer has started, the heat felt good but not sure if my body was quite ready for it.  I feel that we had the golf course in fine shape over the weekend even with the high humidity.

The greens are around 11 feet now with the exception of Sunday.  Sunday had all the elements against us, the fog, cloud cover, and high humidity.  Yesterday, the greens had a thick cover of dew. We decided to broom the greens before mowing to remove the heavy dew. Then after mowing, all the greens were rolled.  This plan seemed to work pretty well since the greens were back up to 11 feet in the morning.

Today we are topdressing the greens and approaches fairly lightly.  We will also completed the application of the fertilizer on the fairways and rough areas.  As of right now everything is on schedule and doing well.  I do have plans to lightly verticut the fairways again next week as well as slicing the fairways.  I will most lightly needle tine the greens the week of the 14th.

Thank you and hope to see you soon
