Update 9/27/12

What a great time of the fall I love these cool days and the golf course is in really great shape right now.

We are still working our way around core aerating the approaches as well as some tees for the second time.  We completed the back nine and all but 6,7,8 as of today.  looks like by next Wednesday we will finally be done.  The tees have mostly recovered especially the ones that were done 3 weeks ago and are much firmer now, we still have some work to do on the maroon and whites since there is so much organic matter on these tees but they are much improved.  In the spring we will do the same process which really should get us close to removing the amount of organic matter that is causing us the problems with water filtration, dryness and stability.

Yesterday, we also started to work on the first fall project of the season.  The greens bunker on 9 has has some issues that I wanted to address for quite some time. It really has no point other then catching a few balls going into the waterfall but other then that because of the way it is situated really is not part of the hole.  Actually a member saw us working there today and asked me if we were adding a bunker there.  I guess that  shows that some people didn't even know it was there.  I started to reshape the bunker, blending it into the existing slope , removed a hump in the middle and lowered the greens side edge in order to "see" the bunker from the approach.  When we finish the bunker will have a better visual impact and come into play when the pin is on the right side of the green.

We have also started to mow the fescue this week.  Being so dry right now is prefect timing.  This will allow us to mow without clumping up any grass and get off to a good start in the spring with our chemical control measures   This fall I have noticed a lot of foxtail weed in some areas.  This spring I did not spray a pre-emergent to control crabgrass and foxtail but next year I will spray for these weeds.
