This is a great time of the year, with the return of the full timers, the chirping of the birds and the smell of fresh cut grass. A few signs that opening day is right around the corner. As of today, We plan on opening the range at noon on Tuesday and the golf course Wednesday the 9th. I have yet to decide if we will allow carts off the paths next week as of today. As long as the forecast stays on course these dates should work out.
I started a few guys this week and we have been very busy cleaning up the course. Yesterday, we rolled all the greens and approaches. I did mow 6 fairway and green as well to test out heights of cut. By next Wednesday we should have the greens, tees, fairways mowed and rolled. Opening the course is a big task we have a few new staff members this year that need trained too. Everything will not be done by Wednesday but the golf course will be in fine shape for the beginning of April after a very long and extreme winter.
As far as snow mold on the golf course the areas that were not treated for snow mold, the roughs, have much more then in previous years. These areas will look matted down and grey. Once the weather warms these areas should be OK. For the most part the greens, tees, and fairways all look very good. We are very fortunate to have a large percentage of creeping bentgrass that I do try to encourage throughout the year. Golf courses that are maintaining poa annua surfaces have considerable damage. There are many reports of turf that will have to be reseeded, some of the photos that are being posted are pretty scary. I wish everyone that has damage good luck in getting everything back to normal.
Hopefully, we will see you Wednesday
